Self esteem refers to providing respect towards self image. It reflects one’s overall self-assessment of own value. Self esteem means understanding yourself, boosting your strengths and overcoming your weaknesses and accordingly setting your goals. Self esteem has being compared with the confidence but it is absolutely wrong to say that a person with high self essteem has a high confidence take an example, a top celebrity who exudes so much confidence when performing onstage, only to have us later find out that he or she is on the brink of depression and is actually going in and out of rehab in real life. Thus self esteem cannot be linked with the confidence but “it is the result of your love for the self”.
It is one of the most vital aspects integrally related to human development. In fact, in order to attain a normal and healthy self-development, one must have self-esteem. A lack in self esteem may result in poor interaction with different life elements and with environmental stimuli.
An individual can be categorized into two main areas of self esteem. These two categories are low self esteem and high self esteem. Another type of self esteem is when an individual falls into middle ground.
Low self esteem is when a person adopts a negative approach in her life and is always thinking poorely of himself and thus creating a poor image of other aspects in his life. Such as a person may hate his job and other things related to his job thus giving the impression that his life has no purpose at all.
High self esteem is when an individual loves life and enjoys many different aspects in his life. An individual with high self esteem has a positive image of their self with possibly a few things they would love to change that give them self doubt on an occasion.
